What documents accreditation actually needs

Four documents underpin every application. The rest depends on who is applying — and most applications that come back do so over a format, not a figure.

The short answer

Four documents, whoever you are

Every application rests on the same four things: proof of who you are, a Chartered Accountant’s certificate of your net worth, proof of your income, and statements backing the assets you declare. Everything else on the lists below exists because of who is applying — an HUF names its Karta, a company names a signatory, a firm repeats the set for each partner.

  • PAN and current KYC
  • A Chartered Accountant's certificate of net worth, showing the financial-asset split
  • Income proof — ITR acknowledgements or a CA-certified income statement
  • Supporting statements for the assets declared

By applicant type

The exact list, per applicant

These are the documents our form asks for, shown at the longest certificate length. A 2-year certificate drops the lines marked as belonging to the year before.

What makes a document acceptable

Most applications that come back do so over the form of a document rather than the substance of the figures.

  • A name that does not match the PAN

The name on the application must match the name on the PAN card letter for letter, expanded initials and all. This is the most common reason an application is queried, and it costs days.

  • A certificate without a UDIN

A net-worth certificate has to be on the Chartered Accountant’s letterhead and carry a UDIN. A signed statement without one is not accepted.

  • Figures from the wrong year

Every figure belongs to a completed financial year, and the certificate and the ITR must agree. A certificate dated today that quotes today’s balance sheet does not evidence last year.

  • A statement that shows a total but not the split

The net worth tests look at how much sits in financial assets specifically, so the certificate has to show that split rather than one combined figure.

If you have no CA certificate

You can order one with the application

A net-worth certificate is the one document most people do not already have. You can use your own Chartered Accountant, or order one from our affiliate CA partners while you apply — prepared from the documents you have already uploaded, on the CA’s letterhead with a UDIN.

For a firm, one per partner

A partnership firm qualifies only if each partner does, so each partner needs their own certificate. That is the one cost on an application that multiplies with the number of people involved.
